Why I chose to study at Leeds Trinity

I decided I didn't want to move away from my home town of Leeds for university and I heard really great things about the journalism course. After my interview, I fell in love with Leeds Trinity! The fact that the campus is smaller than most universities made me feel much more of a name rather than a number.

My best student memories

I loved being a student, one of my favourite memories is the Graduation Ball! It was a really good evening and it was nice to celebrate the end of the three years by getting dressed up.

The value of placements

I did a few placements, including six weeks with Trinity Vision run by Liz Cable, as well as a placement doing social media with Citizens Advice Bureau as part of my final year project. I was also a Police Support Volunteer for West Yorkshire Police in their Corporate Communications department during my final year. The placement was set up by one of the journalism lecturers and I absolutely loved my time as WYP. I learnt so many skills, including the general skills needed to start full time work!

Leaving Leeds Trinity with a new skill set

I decided to go down a PR route in my career, but I learnt so many skills that I use today. University really built up my confidence, something I feel has really helped me in my career. I did quite a few presentations during my degree and this has really helped improve my skills in presenting - especially as I often do them in my job now!

My career after graduating

After graduating, I started a full time Content & PR role at an SEO agency in Leeds and then moved on to be a Senior PR Executive here at Jaywing! Personally, I also passed my driving test a year or so after graduating and I have also just bought my first home on my own which I'm really proud of!

My career highlight

My career highlight was when I landed my volunteer role at West Yorkshire Police. I'm a big true crime fan and it was really interesting to see the workings of the headquarters!
