Modern Foreign Languages Teacher, Allerton High School

I felt supported all the time and thoroughly prepared from day one to be on my path to becoming a school teacher.

My inspiration to become a teacher

I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. When I was 13 my English teacher was the best teacher I ever had, they really inspired me to become THAT teacher.

Why I chose to study at Leeds Trinity

I chose Leeds Trinity as it was a small university, and I was confident that my progress would be closely followed by my lecturers and that they knew who I was. I also thought it would be easier to make friends and to quickly feel part of the Leeds Trinity community.

Being a student at Leeds Trinity

My student experience was great. The staff knew who I was from day one following a really nice welcome evening and induction. I felt supported all the time and thoroughly prepared from day one to be on my path to becoming a school teacher. I valued the fact that I was closely followed by the university on my placement to make sure I was always on track.

From placement to job

My second placement was at Allerton High School. When a job came up I was encouraged to apply for it and was successful. It felt amazing to get a job through the placement I had undertaken.

A rewarding career

Being a teacher is so rewarding, I love it when I see how interested the class are in the lesson and when they come and say thank you at the end. Seeing the class smiling in front of me makes me realise that I’m doing my dream job.

My teachers knew me from day one. It’s a very rewarding job, probably the most rewarding you can get.

My advice to NQTs

The most important thing I would say to any NQT is to get organised. Being a teacher is the most rewarding job you could get.
