A Creative Writing alumna from Leeds Trinity University is launching her second children's book to raise awareness of climate change.

Jane Browne, 42, will launch Gaia's Revenge, Book Two of The Earth Chronicles fantasy trilogy, at a book launch in Leeds next month.

Jane said: "With climate change finally being taken seriously and being made a more pressing political, global issue, as a teacher, I feel immensely proud of so many young people standing up and ensuring they are listened to.

"I actually began writing this series 12 years ago, so it feels quite astonishing that I am releasing the series just as people are realising worldwide that we have to act, and we have a responsibility to re-balance the devastation we have inflicted upon our planet."

Jane graduated with a master's degree last year in Creative Writing, whilst working full-time as a primary teacher. During her master's, shepublished her first book in the series - Hannah and the Hollow Tree, which introduces readers to 13-year-old protagonist Hannah, who discovers that not only have her family been keeping a powerful secret from her, but that the secret holds the key to saving Gaia, the mother of all nature from dying.

In Gaia's Revenge, the second instalment of The Earth Chronicles, Hannah learns about two worlds plagued by environmental issues, as well as her responsibilities towards saving it. As well as highlighting climate change, the books also teach young people about fulfilling their potential, courage, bravery, family relationships, friendship, loss and coping with change.

Oz Hardwick, award-winning poet and Professor of English at Leeds Trinity University, said: "Gaia's Revenge takes on both the perennial problems of friendship, trust, and responsibility, and the global environmental issues facing young people today, and it does so with breathless, page-turning energy."

The third and final book in the trilogy, Hollow's End, will conclude with an epic battle to save humanity, and will be released in 2020. Jane is also hosting creative writing workshops for Key Stage Two students this autumn, alongside her role as a part-time teacher. The workshops are designed to educate students about the planet and help them to create plotlines, characters and dilemmas as part of their own fantasy adventure stories.

Gaia's Revenge will be released at a book launch on Thursday 24 October, from 7.00pm at Farsley Constitutional Club in Leeds. The event is free to attend and will feature readings, book signings, a Q&A session and special guests from Leeds Trinity University.
