Former Leeds Trinity University lecturer Glyn Middleton, Head of Skills and Industry Engagement at Screen Yorkshire, and Leeds Trinity alumni Charlie Wainwright, Assistant Producer at Air TV, delivered a masterclass on Finding and casting contributors in factual television.

The masterclass used real-life programming examples to introduce Level 4, 5 and 6 students to the fundamentals of sourcing great contributors and cast members for a host of television shows. The masterclass was designed specifically to help television students learn the key skill of locating and choosing the best-quality contributors for factual TV shows.

Students received expert advice and insights on sourcing and casting for a range of factual television shows, to enhance their skills in both development and production roles and maximise their knowledge for securing jobs.

Richard Greatrex, Senior Lecturer in Television Production at Leeds Trinity University, said: “This was an amazing opportunity for students to learn first-hand from industry professionals the key skill of locating and choosing the best-quality contributors for factual TV shows, which will not only help to further strengthen the work they produce, but also provide them with vital knowledge when entering the industry.”

Glyn Middleton, Head of Skills and Industry Engagement at Screen Yorkshire, said: “It was fantastic to return to Leeds Trinity University as part of our Connected Campus initiative to deliver the casting masterclass.

“The students were all well-engaged and it is a privilege to be able to help them in some way towards their future careers within the production industry.”

Established in 2002, Screen Yorkshire has championed the film, television, games and digital industries in Yorkshire and the Humber for nearly two decades.

Connected Campus is an initiative set up by Screen Yorkshire to forge closer relationships between TV and film professionals, production companies, broadcasters and students that are trying to break into the industry. All students at partner institutions, which includes Leeds Trinity University, are then able to access a range of bootcamps, masterclasses and special events.
