Mia Lofthouse and Alabaster Wilkinson have co-edited the anthology Confessions, which includes prose and poetry from students, teaching staff, alumni and other contributors connected to Leeds Trinity.

Confessions is the ninth in the series of Leeds Trinity anthologies published under the University’s Wordspace imprint with award-winning independent publisher Indigo Dreams. This latest anthology includes poets and prose writers revealing their secrets, ranging from biblical confessions to reminiscence on lost love, childhood mischief and righteous revenge.

Mia Lofthouse, MA Creative Writing graduate and Co-Editor, said: “It’s brilliant to see the Confessions Anthology in an actual book after looking at it on a screen for so long. Beyond the beautiful cover art by my co-editor Alabaster, there is a vast array of excellent poetry and prose from some really talented writers.

“It’s been a real pleasure to work on this book, and something I will always be proud of. Our society tends to often overlook the importance of creativity and the power of stories, but it is my belief that stories are a major aspect of what makes us human.”

Professor Oz Hardwick, Programme Lead for MA Creative Writing at Leeds Trinity University, said: “Year on year, as the Creative Writing community at Leeds Trinity has grown, our anthologies have received more and more excellent submissions from our web of writers which stretches out from Leeds to far off shores. Mia and Alabaster have done an excellent – and difficult – job in bringing together this rich and diverse selection on an intriguing theme.”

Dr Amina Alyal, Senior Lecturer in English and Creative Writing, said: “This theme is shrewdly chosen, because who can resist a secret? From the first poem you’re hooked, and for poem after story after poem you continue to be drawn right in. Here are confessions to the sea, of the supernatural, by letter, by diary, coded confessions in art, confessions within confessions, tender, intimate, bizarre, painful, hilarious – the contributors have all responded with gusto to the call and their pieces have come together in a tight, highly readable, resonating collection that will linger long after you put the book down.”

Confessions is available to buy for £9.50 from Indigo Dreams Publishing.
