The City Campus opened its doors for teaching in October 2024, with programmes now being delivered in the schools of Business; Construction and the Built Environment; Computer Science; Criminology, Investigation and Policing; and Law.

The Blessing service was led by the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Rev Marcus Stock, and coordinated by Fr Marc Homsey, the University’s Priest Chaplain. A ribbon cutting ceremony, attended by Leeds Trinity University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Charles Egbu, Chancellor John Studzinski CBE and Chair of the University’s Board of Governors, Jamie Hanley, was held afterwards to officially open the building.

The City Campus has been designed to provide a transformational and career-led educational experience for students and immerse the University further in the Leeds City Region – from being able to access networks directly on the doorstep to inviting employers to be part of its approach to education, research, and knowledge exchange.

Its specialist facilities include a board room, law court, custody suite and labs to enhance learning opportunities and familiarise students with the environments and equipment they will regularly experience once they have graduated.

Professor Charles Egbu, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University, said: “I am delighted to have joined the Blessing service led by the Rt Rev Marcus Stock at our Leeds City Campus as we formally open the building. It has been fantastic to welcome our students and colleagues to begin teaching in recent months, and we very much look forward to inviting members of the wider Leeds community to benefit from the space in the months to come.

“We are very proud that our City Campus provides a new space for people to come together to deliver applied and transformative learning and development opportunities; to connect deeply to support the Leeds agenda to deliver inclusive growth which benefits all communities; and to collaborative to problem-solve, address societal issues and create impact. As a Leeds Anchor institution, we are excited about the enhanced contribution we will make in the Leeds City Region.”

The building’s central location at 1 Trevelyan Square was carefully chosen to complement the University’s Main Campus in Horsforth, which was established in 1966. The building is owned by leading UK property company Kinrise.

Leeds Trinity University worked with Graham Interior Fit-Out to refurbish 1 Trevelyan Square for educational use, and encourage active, collaborative interactions between students.

James Shannon, GRAHAM Interior Fit-Out Project Manager, said: “It's been a pleasure to be able to deliver the City Campus for Leeds Trinity University and help them launch operations outside of Horsforth. The GRAHAM team have worked seamlessly with the University project team, Turner Townsend and Jefferson Sheard Associates to proudly present the finished article. We wish Leeds Trinity every success with their continued role out and give our sincere thanks for allowing GRAHAM to be part of the journey.”

Sustainability has been at the forefront of the development of the Leeds Trinity University City Campus, which has been designed to meet BREEAM Excellent as a minimum in design and operation.
