Postgraduate students were first to step into the City Campus, based at 1 Trevelyan Square, on Wednesday 16 October. Foundation Year and undergraduate students will continue their programmes at the City Campus from next week. 

The City Campus will be home to courses in Business, Law, Computer Science, Criminology, and Construction and Built Environment – subjects expected to thrive and grow in the heart of the dynamic Leeds economy. 

Sustainability has been at the forefront of the development of the City Campus, which has been designed to meet BREEAM Excellent as a minimum in design and operation.

Its specialist facilities include a board room, law court, custody suite and labs to enhance learning opportunities and familiarise students with the environments and equipment they will regularly experience once they have graduated and begin their careers. 

Professor Charles Egbu, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University, said: “I am delighted to announce that we have opened the doors to our new Leeds City Campus at 1 Trevelyan Square to begin teaching. 

“This is a significant milestone in the history of the University. The City Campus broadens our potential pool of prospective students and is central to the sustainability of the University in the long term, attracting a new cohort of students interested in the city experience, to complement our Main Campus in Horsforth. It also provides an opportunity to reach out to more people through our mission and vision of forming students and learners whose lives will flourish, finding wholeness in their work and world. Furthermore, as an Anchor institution, we are excited about the enhanced contribution we intend to make in the Leeds City Region. 
 
“Opening the building is testament to the exceptional efforts of everyone at Leeds Trinity. Thank you to all who have played a role in bringing our City Campus to life – from the architects and builders to our partners and supporters, and in particular colleagues across the University who have worked tirelessly to make this happen.”

The University’s strategic employer partnerships will also be key to its employability offer.

Arefeen Salim, who is studying for a BSc Computer Science degree at Leeds Trinity University, commented: “I think it’s fantastic that my University is able to provide opportunities for students to make connections with businesses so early on in their studies. One of the first things I did when I started my course was sign up for a hackathon. I gained valuable skills in public speaking and learned to present ideas on the spot. Interacting with employees, hearing about their journeys, and receiving their advice was incredibly inspiring.”

A formal opening of the Leeds Trinity University City Campus at 1 Trevelyan Square will take place in due course.

Leeds Trinity’s City Campus complements its Main Campus at Horsforth, which was established in 1966. The Main Campus has a public sector focus through teacher training, health and life sciences, and policing apprenticeships, alongside expertise in psychology, sport, journalism and media.
