Entry requirements
At the point of application, you will be expected to demonstrate that you have achieved the necessary language proficiency, academic qualifications, you have prior experience in research, and have a viable research proposal in an area we can supervise. Fees and funding
Details of the annual tuition fee for studying a self-funded PhD or Masters by Research for UK/EU students can be found on our Postgraduate Finance UK Students page, and for International students on our International Fees and Funding page.
We frequently advertise fully and part-funded PhD studentships and also support our graduates and alumni into postgraduate research.

Our response to your enquiry
We will respond to your enquiry promptly. If we are able to supervise your project, we will provide details of how to make a formal application. We have three intakes a year - the deadlines for applications are:
- April for commencing studies in October
- September for commencing studies in February
- January for commencing studies in May
Following your formal application
We will contact you with a decision to interview within two to four weeks of receiving an application. Our decision to offer a place is based on the quality of your research proposal, the academic fit to our research strengths (supervision) and your performance at interview. We will inform you of an outcome within two weeks of the interview.
Confirming your place
All of our research degrees are accredited by the University of Leeds, and our provisional offer is subject to approval from the University of Leeds.
