Wellbeing and flexible working

We are committed to a 35-hour working week and commitment to flexible work arrangements. We have an agile working framework developed through engagement with our staff community groups, our approach is flexible and balanced with the needs of our students.

Annual leave

  • Academic employees: 35 days pro rata
  • Professional services employees: Up to 30 days (pro rata) dependent on grade and number of years of service
  • Bank holiday entitlement: Eight days
  • All roles receive a total of three extra days in combination with bank holidays
  • Closure at Christmas, with three-four additional days off
  • Option to purchase five additional holidays (pro rata) on an annual basis
  • Take advantage of up to two days off for volunteering (pro rata) to contribute to the local community

Financial wellbeing and pensions

We want to support your financial wellbeing with annual reviews and incremental progression, in addition to your employee pension contribution: 

  • Professional Services colleagues will join the Local Government Pension Scheme with a generous employer contribution of 19.1%. 
  • Academic colleagues will join the Teachers’ Pension Scheme with an employer contribution of 28.6%

Cycle to Work Scheme

To encourage active sustainable travel, through our Trinity Perks scheme, we provide staff with the Cycle to Work scheme benefit. This is a salary sacrifice scheme to help with the upfront cost of purchasing a bike and accessories, with tax-efficient loans available of up to £2500 paid back over an 18-month period. We also have a range of cyclist facilities on site including secure cycle storage, and a bike maintenance station. We also have showers and changing facilities for all staff via our Sports centre facilities.

Chapel and multi-faith prayer room

As a university with Catholic values, we have an on-site Chapel open to all on our Main Campus in Horsforth, with regular services held throughout the week.  In addition, our Chaplaincy team host Tea on the Landing, a weekly event for employees and students from all faiths to meet, chat and grab a coffee and a crumpet.

Both our campuses have multi-faith prayer spaces that can be used for prayer or community worship. These spaces are open all day and evening for staff and students of all faiths to use, and are spacious rooms with wash facilities and information about upcoming religious festivals.

Physical and mental wellbeing

  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for free confidential legal, financial, and consumer advice, plus a range of counselling services. 
  • On-site health checks and weekly mindfulness sessions. 
  • Membership to our on-site fitness centre at significantly reduced rates. 

Wellness initiatives 

  • Monthly learning lunches covering topics such as nutrition, sleep, and financial planning. 
  • Regular wellness events and resources to support your overall health.

Eye tests 

We work in partnership with Specsavers to provide colleagues with Eyecare Vouchers. 

Employees are entitled to a full sight and eye health check and free glasses (specifically for VDU use) if selected from the £49 range, or a contribution towards your chosen pair of glasses.
