Seven alumni from Leeds Trinity University have been selected to represent Great Britain in the Teachers Rugby League team in this year's RFL President's Cup. ????

The President's Cup was launched in 2014 (previously known as The Association's Cup), to give teams regular, competitive playing opportunities between their respective World Cups and has become a staple part their annual fixtures.

The tournament consists of fixtures between England Universities, the UK Armed Forces, Great Britain Police and Great Britain Teachers. GB Teachers are currently training for their last match against GB Police.

James Howard, who graduated from Leeds Trinity University in 2009, said: "We are fully aware of the time and preparation that the University team and UK Armed Forces have before each game, including training camps. We all work during the day and then travel to the venue to play but we aim to hold our own and challenge each team.

"Three of us played together and won the BUCS Plate in 2009, so it's amazing to still be playing on the field together ten years on."

GB Teachers will play their last fixture of the cup against GB Police on Wednesday 5 June at Sheffield Hallam University's Sports Park. In preparation of this year's cup, the team have played against the Polish Exiles, the Royal Navy and further afield with a two-match tour in Spain.

Last year the team finished second in the cup, and under the leadership of new Head Coach Lee McCarthy of London Chargers, are keen to make an impression against their opposition.

Brett Arnall, Alumni Relations Officer at Leeds Trinity University said: "We are extremely proud of what our alumni achieve after they complete their courses. We are often sharing career success stories, but this is a fantastic story about how our graduates continue to immerse themselves in sport at a high level.

"To have seven Leeds Trinity graduates representing a Great Britain team at Rugby League is an incredible achievement. I would like to wish all the players the very best of luck for their remaining games and thank them for continuing to fly the flag for Leeds Trinity University."
